• Wipe Clean Daily: Gently wipe the white marble chakla and the marble-and-wood belan with a soft, slightly damp microfiber cloth after rolling dough to remove flour, residue, or dust.
• Hand Wash with Care: Clean gently by hand using mild dish soap and lukewarm water only when necessary. Never submerge either piece in water, and keep them completely out of the dishwasher to protect the wood handles and joints.
• Dry Promptly: Dry both the rolling board and pin thoroughly with a clean, soft towel immediately after washing to prevent moisture from settling into the porous stone or the wooden grain.
• Prevent Staining: Promptly wipe away any oils, ghee, or food residues. Natural marble and wood are porous and can absorb liquids or fats if they are left sitting on the surface for extended periods.
• Protect Before Serving Hot Food: Always place a sheet of butter paper or parchment paper underneath hot food items or rotis if using the chakla surface for casual serving.
• Condition the Wood: Periodically treat the wooden handles of the rolling pin with a small amount of food-safe mineral oil or wood balm to preserve the natural grain and prevent drying.
• Safe Handling & Placement: Lift and handle the heavy stone chakla with both hands, placing it gently on stable countertops, as natural marble can chip or crack if dropped or knocked against hard surfaces.
• Avoid Harsh Cleaners: Stay away from abrasive scrubbers, metal scouring pads, and acidic or bleach-based cleaners, which will scratch the polished marble finish and damage the wood.
